In a democratic society, it shouldn't matter where you come from - everyone should have the same chance to be heard and to succeed. Yet time and again, people in some parts of the country get a better deal than people living in the North East. Unlike Scotland, London, Wales and Northern Ireland, we don't have a strong regional body able to make the changes we need, listen to local people and put the North East first. Instead we have MPs who have to toe the party line, failing local councils and 'metro mayors' with little power and accountability.
We don’t expect the people of North East England to be treated any better than people anywhere else, but we will never accept that they are treated any worse. We will always stand up for the best for North East people and our region. We want a fair share of prosperity and equal, world class, opportunities for all North East people. That means the power to make political choices here, not in London; it means protected budgets for our region; and it means a sustained, major investment in our infrastructure to make up for decades of neglect.
